B1G Futures Challenge for Shawn

Fuck you Shawn. You ain’t shit and you know it. I propose a B1G futures wager like last year’s. You must make 5 $100 bets from the following. Get a little write up going. When you’re done, email me. As soon as I’m finished and you’ve emailed me, we can each post our plays in the comments. I’ll let you name the stakes, though it can’t be less than $20, as I don’t want to be made fun of.

If anyone else wants a taste, let me know.

  1. Ahhhh gahhhhh, AGAIN with the B1G futures bets. Would you get off my dick already? Cripes. I’m tired of taking all the money from all the people always.

That being said, you’ll have my picks today or tomorrow. $20.

  2. Nebraska o8.5 +110
Michigan State to win B1G East +210
Iowa to win the B1G West +400
    Iowa o8.5 +115
    Michigan State o9.5 +100

I think our schedule is just incredibly weak, with even the games that look tougher involving teams that lost their most important pieces. Our defense let a lot to be desired last year, but they showed signs of improvement, which was hard to see at times due to turnovers. Turnovers usually are a bit random, but it’s been a problem for us enough to think it’s a larger issue. But it’s talked about so much and worked on so much it has to at least improve some.

Michigan State has a lot back and Ohio State lost quite a bit, and they play in East Lansing. I’ll take plus money on Michigan State, as they seemed to gain an offensive identity once they settled on a quarterback.

I’ve now had each of Iowa, Nebraska, and Wisconsin to win the West at different points while researching this. I want to put Nebraska, but the fact that we play at East Lansing fucking sucks for us. Did you know Iowa and Wisconsin both escape Ohio State/Michigan State this year? Their B1G schedules are complete jokes. Iowa gets the best teams in the West, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Northwestern, all at home. Unreal, right? They have to go to Purdue, Maryland, Minnesota, and Illinois, with Indiana also at home. That’s ridiculous. I think +400 is just too good of a number to not take with that schedule.

I was going to take Wisconsin over because their schedule is so weak, but they lost an awful lot. Because of the reasons cited above, I’ll roll with Iowa again. A nasty D line and a decent running game should make it hard to lose too many with what their schedule looks like. Oh, and their non-conference schedule is Northern Iowa, Ball State, Iowa State, and Pitt. A real gauntlet.

Other than having to play at Oregon, their schedule lines up pretty well for them. Nebraska, Michigan, and Ohio State are at home, and other than Penn State they pretty much have easy wins.

All plus numbers. Perhaps I’m an idiot.

  3. Iowa OVER 8.5 wins (+115) – they’ll pry be favored in each of their first 10 games, the hardest of which are probably AT Maryland and home to NW…also, they’ve got a great OL as usual and a good chunk of last year’s team back.

Nebraska OVER 8.5 wins (+110) – fuck all the haters…7-0 at home and 2-3 on the road makes this bet a winner…all day, every day.

Wisky UNDER 9.5 wins (+115) – fuck the fucking badgers…aside from mel gordon and probably a good OL, this team is dogshit…their schedule is peanuts, like ours, but they’ve got 4 “toss-ups”…LSU, @NW, vs NU, @Iowa…they go 1-3 or 0-4 in those contests, I win…even if they split, i’d expect them to take a shit somewhere else on the schedule when no one expects it…no fucking way this team goes 10-2 or better.

MSU to win the East (+210) – they get michigan, NU, and OSU at home…plus, that QB played great (by immobile, B1G QB standards) down the stretch layst year…and the D…i could kiss it.

NU to win the West (+160) – another homer pick, but i’ve already established wisky blows…i expect NW to be much better, but they ain’t contendin for a crown…and fuck all the other west teams…i expect NU @ Iowa to be for the whole enchilada…and i’ll be damned if i’m picking iowa to come out on top…no self-respecting husker fan should either…oh that’s right, feser hates nebraska…and fun…and women.
